Behind The Scenes Stable Tours with Two Top trainers

Enjoy a morning on the gallops with two leading teachers of their craft. Both Tom Clover and Alex Hales have excellent backgrounds in the sport having been assistant trainers to David Simcock and Kim Bailey respectively.

TOM CLOVER

Tom is based in Newmarket, based in the iconic and stunning surroundings of Kremlin House Stables where Carroll House was trained to win the Prix de L’Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp in 1989.

Tom is currently having his best ever season this year in terms of number of wins and prize money. This is illustrated by Rogue Spirit securing Tom's first Listed victory in the Oaks Trial for Fillies at Lingfield.

ALEX HALES

Alex has been involved in racing since leaving school. Key positions held in formative years include being Head Lad to Charlie Mann, Assistant Trainer to Gold Cup and Grand National winning trainer Kim Bailey.

His yard is located in the stunning surroundings of the Edgcote Estate near Banbury. The estate comprises of two thousand acres and provides six to seven miles of bridleways and quiet roadways, a perfect combination for training horses.

Horses trained here in the past have included the great 1970s chaser Spanish Steps.

In 2022 Alex achieved a unique feat by winning the Grade 1 Manifesto Novices Chase with a homebred called Millers Bank, the first race of the Grand National Festival.

Both Alex and Tom have worked well with Henry on other projects. A warm welcome awaits for interested individuals and groups based around East Anglia and Home Counties to learn more about the magic of training racehorses.

More about JS Bloodstock
Founded in 2018 by Billy Jackson-Stops who is fast becoming a recognised and respected agent within the industry. He has a breadth of UK and international clients including Ralph Beckett, Cumani Racing and Kirtlington Park Stud.

Billy started at the Oppenheimers’ Hascombe and Valiant Stud, breeders of Cracksman and Derby winner Golden Horn, where he prepared yearlings for the sales. This gave him a great insight into breeding at the top end of the market as well as an unparalleled knowledge of yearlings.

Next he became assistant trainer to Olly and Hetta Stevens. Their numerous successes during his time there included Group 2 Flying Childers’ winner Green Door and Royal Ascot winner Extortionist this followed with the position of Assistant Trainer to Ralph Beckett where he presided over the careers of Oaks heroines Talent and Secret Gesture as well as Simple Verse winning the Group 1 St Ledger.

Billy then headed to Australia where John Ferguson, then Racing Manager of Godolphin, offered him the job of assistant trainer to John O’Shea. He worked closely with John to manage the training of 400 horses across three states, including Group 1 winners Alizee, Astern and Hartnell who was third in the Melbourne Cup.
